Passive Safety

Passive Safety has become a major consideration in the design and specification of new road schemes. The development of so-called "crash friendly" posts and columns has been a major area of development for the company. Through our partnership with Jerol Industrie of Sweden, we can offer the widest selection of approved sign posts and lighting columns all crash tested to EN12767.

Innumerable people become victim to road traffic accidents, Post and Columns aims to reduce this through introducing products which are specially manufactured to deal in passive safety. Consequently there is a growing focus on traffic safety and all its various components. One of these is a safer road infrastructure, in which the use of passive safety and passively safe columns and posts, which break in a controlled manner and absorb energy in impact, is rapidly increasing. Passive safety support structures for road equipment, such as lighting columns and signposts, can significantly reduce the probability of death and the severity of injury to vehicle occupants in crashes with these structures.

For five years Jerol Industrie of Sweden has carried out research and technical studies linked with passive safety, these include more than 40 crash tests, to develop impact absorbing structures manufactured from fibre reinforced polymer composite, and this research has led to a highly engineered manufacturing process to make these products.

The Post and Column Company, as sole UK distributors, have worked with Jerol to produce a range of passive safety crash friendly columns and posts specific to the UK market.
