Jerol Composite Lighting Columns and Signposts

Innumerable people are injured or die in road traffic accidents. Consequently there is a growing focus on traffic safety and all its various components. One of these is a safer road infrastructure, in which the use of passively safe columns and posts, which break in a controlled manner and absorb energy in impact, is rapidly increasing. Passively safe support structures for road equipment, such as lighting columns and signposts, can significantly reduce the probability of death and the severity of injury to vehicle occupants in crashes with these structures.

For five years Jerol Industri of Sweden has carried out research and technical studies, including a total of 40 crash tests, to develop impact absorbing structures manufactured from fibre reinforced polymer composite, and this research has led to a highly engineered manufacturing process to make these products.
